Concrete Leveling in St Louis, MO

Driveway & Sidewalk Concrete Lifting in University City, MO

The Problem

A homeowner in University City, Missouri, had settlement affecting the bottom half of their concrete driveway. The slabs had sunk below their original position, creating uneven transitions and reducing support near the lower portion of the driveway.

Three sidewalk sections next to the driveway had also settled. These uneven sections created noticeable height differences and a potential trip hazard for family members, visitors, and anyone walking between the driveway and home.

The homeowner needed the affected concrete raised and supported without the expense and disruption of removing and replacing the existing slabs.

What We Found

When the STL Polyjack team inspected the area, we found:

  • Settlement across the bottom half of the driveway
  • Uneven transitions between driveway slabs
  • Three sunken sidewalk sections
  • Trip hazards along the adjacent walkway
  • Voids and weakened support beneath the concrete
  • Concrete that was still suitable for lifting

Because the slabs remained in usable condition, polyurethane concrete lifting offered a practical alternative to complete replacement.

How We Fixed It

We used our polyurethane concrete lifting process to raise and support the affected driveway and sidewalk sections.

Step 1: Drill Small Access Holes

Small holes measuring approximately 5/8 inch were carefully drilled through the affected slabs. These access points allowed us to reach the empty spaces beneath the settled concrete.

Step 2: Inject High-Density Polyurethane Foam

High-density polyurethane foam was injected beneath the driveway and sidewalk. As the material expanded, it filled underground voids, restored support, and carefully lifted the settled slabs.

The bottom half of the driveway was raised toward its original position as closely as existing conditions allowed. We also lifted and supported the three sidewalk sections adjacent to the driveway to improve their alignment.

Step 3: Patch and Clean Up

After the concrete was lifted and stabilized, the small access holes were patched and the work area was cleaned. The foam cured quickly, allowing the homeowner to use the repaired areas with minimal downtime.

The Results

The driveway and adjacent sidewalk were raised and supported without removing and replacing the existing concrete.

The completed project provided:

  • Improved driveway slab alignment
  • A smoother lower driveway surface
  • Reduced sidewalk trip hazards
  • Better support beneath the concrete
  • More even transitions between slabs
  • Improved access beside the driveway
  • Minimal disruption to the property
  • A faster alternative to replacement

While existing slab and site conditions can affect the exact final height, each section was adjusted as closely as possible to its original position.

Why University City Homeowners Choose Polyurethane Concrete Lifting

Soil movement, erosion, poor drainage, and changing Missouri weather can leave empty spaces beneath driveways and sidewalks in University City. Without proper support, concrete slabs may gradually settle and become uneven.

Polyurethane concrete lifting addresses the problem below the surface. The expanding foam fills voids, supports the concrete, and allows sunken sections to be carefully raised through small access holes.

If your driveway or sidewalk has started sinking, STL Polyjack can help determine whether polyurethane concrete lifting is the right repair solution.
