Office Entrance Walkway Drainage & Trip Hazard Repair in Arnold, MO
The Problem
A commercial property in Arnold, Missouri, had several settled concrete sections near its office entrance. The front sidewalk was holding water instead of allowing it to drain away properly.
The uneven slabs also created a noticeable trip hazard along the route from the parking lot to the front door. Employees, customers, and other visitors regularly used this walkway, making a safer and more even entrance an important priority.
The property needed the main entrance and south walkway raised and supported without the cost and disruption of replacing the existing concrete.
What We Found
When the STL Polyjack team inspected the walkways, we found:
- Settled concrete near the main entrance
- Low areas collecting standing water
- Uneven joints creating trip hazards
- Poor drainage along the front sidewalk
- Additional settlement along the south walk
- Voids and weak support beneath the slabs
The concrete itself was still in usable condition. Raising and supporting the affected sections offered a practical alternative to tearing them out and pouring new concrete.
How We Fixed It
We used our polyurethane concrete lifting process to raise and support the affected sidewalk sections.
Step 1: Drill Small Access Holes
Small holes measuring approximately 5/8 inch were carefully drilled through the affected concrete. These holes allowed us to reach the empty spaces beneath the settled slabs.
Step 2: Inject High-Density Polyurethane Foam
High-density polyurethane foam was injected beneath the sidewalk. As the foam expanded, it filled underground voids, restored support, and carefully lifted the settled concrete.
The main entrance walkway was raised from the parking lot toward the front door as closely as conditions allowed. We also raised and supported the affected sections of the south walkway.
Step 3: Patch and Clean Up
After the slabs were lifted and stabilized, the access holes were patched and the work areas were cleaned. Polyurethane foam cures quickly, helping keep disruption around the office entrance to a minimum.
The Results
The office entrance and south walkway were raised and supported without removing and replacing the existing slabs.
The completed project provided:
- A safer route to the office entrance
- Reduced trip hazards between slabs
- Improved drainage along the walkway
- Less standing water near the front door
- Better support beneath the concrete
- A smoother transition from the parking lot
- Minimal interruption to the property
- A faster and more affordable option than replacement
